Death Toll Continue to Rise As Flood Takes Some Parts Of Ghana

The death toll in the Central Regional flood disaster has risen to eight.

Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Sandy Amartey, confirmed the deaths to Class News as of Monday June 13.

Earlier that day, five people were reported to have died in the disaster.

While some of the victims died after a building caved in on them, as a result of the torrential rains, which had been falling together with thunderstorms and heavy winds for four straight days, others were electrocuted or simply battered to death by the flood waters.

Their bodies have been deposited at the morgue. The floods in the Central Region come on the back of recent flooding in Accra following several hours of rain.

Several people on twitter and other social media platforms are crying out

The Kwame Nkrumah Circle, where 150 people died last year, in June, as a result of flooding and a resultant gas station explosion, was once again flooded. It was feared that a toddler got killed in the deluge.
