Man on the run after shooting, killing mother of 3 in northeast Houston

HOUSTON -- Houston police are searching for a man who shot and killed his ex-girlfriend, and injured her new boyfriend, in what appears to be a jealous rage.
Darrell P. Mitchell, 28,  is on the run, and believed to be armed and dangerous.
The shooting happened shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 6600 block of Hirsch.
Police said Mitchell went to the home of his ex, Lakiesha Lewis, and opened fire on her and her friend, Johnel Francis.  Police were directed to apt. 12 and found both victims lying in the bathroom.
Lewis, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.   Francis, 24, was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Lewis and Mitchell have three children together, and police believe Mitchell could possibly harm himself. They want to find him as quickly as possible and get him off the streets.
Police believe Mitchell is driving a charcoal gray Dodge Avenger. The car has a dent on the front passenger door that makes it difficult to open.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
