A trip to the Royal Opera House is a prestigious event and comes with plenty of spectacle. But it also involves a fair bit of expense — and that's if you can even get tickets.
Now there is a more accessible alternative. Empire Cinemas have teamed up with the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to live broadcast all of its operas across the whole 2016/17 season.
That means you can catch the action at several cinemas around the capital and beyond for around £15. And although it might not be able to boast quite the same atmosphere, the view from the cinema screen may actually be better.
Cinemas taking part include those in Leicester Square, Bromley, Sutton and Walthamstow.
Empire Cinemas will broadcast 12 live performances, half of which are operas, and half ballets.
